old is gold…

A long tiring day it was. She got home late from college. Was on minimal food for three days. And all she needed was to hit the bed n sleep. She sat by the couch watching the pouring rain outside. She had her favorite mug full of ginger tea. And savoured its spicy flavour with the cool breeze. The chilling weather she always would love and talk about. For she felt the feeling of belonging, every time it rained. As if it was her strange connection with the heaven.

She opened the box she had kept aside for such an evening. It was full of letters she had received throughout her school life. Friends and admirers were kept safe here. She glanced upon almost a hundred of those letters to pick the right ones to read in this weather. It surely wasn’t love in the air, for friendship overpowered it all.

She opened an envelope, having ANAMIKA written bold on it. Took a deep breath and opened it. It had a sorry card in it, along with a letter. She exactly knew what it was. With a little shaky hands she read the card, a yellow card with a sorry message written on it. The letter lay besides it.

She took a sip from the mug, and kept it aside for a while. Took the letter in hand, and opened it. The handwriting was obviously indicating how impromptu it was, and came straight from heart. She began reading.

First page. Second. Third. And fourth. The last line was barely visible. She was in tears.

She wiped it with her sleeves and folded the pages back neatly, making sure no tear falls on it.

This dearest friend Anamika loved more than anyone else, and missed her so much. Anami was still so afraid to go and hug her tight n confess how dearly she wanted her back in life, just like the old times. She wanted to tell, how much she missed her presence in life. How she’d want to share everything with her beloved friend. The cute guy around, the grudges against others, or the way some people behaved.

Anami, wanted to share everything. The hurt loved ones had given her, the way strangers came to help and blossomed her life yet again. Yet she missed this dear friend who was the greatest and the most beautiful flower. The singing old Hindi songs sitting on front bench. Gossiping right there, while teacher would teach. Who gave moral support to Anami while having low grades. And the list would go endless.

She kept the letter away, and closed the box, for she was not willing to read anything further. She wanted to meet her right then, and speak her heart out. She handled her phone and dialled her number, but cut it thrice. Chose to keep quiet, and let time pass.

Just then, a knock on the door, got her back to senses. Anami opened the door, and was in disbelief seeing her old friend right before her! Her happiness knew no bounds.

They spent a perfect evening together, gossiping and talking about the good old times, sitting on the same couch as they’d sit before. Everything seemed perfect.

If only Anami would gather the courage to walk up to her and utter those lovely three words.

I LOVE YOU!
